Mazda Protege Engine
The three trim levels of Mazda Protege are equipped with powerful engines that
boost the car's optimum performance. The most competitive Protege ES is powered
by a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine that can produce a maximum of 122 horsepower.
A 1.6 liter, 4-cylinder engine is used by Protege LX and DX models. It puts out
105 horsepower assisted with
a standard five-speed manual transmission and optional 4-speed automatic transmission.
In California, the 1.6-liter engine passed the state's policy for ultra-low-emissions
vehicle. A fuel economy rating of 25/30 mpg is produced using automatic transmission
while a rating of 25/31 mpg is produced for manual transmission.
DX Sedan comes with a 2.0-litre DOHC, sixteen-valve, four-cylinder engine equipped
with aluminum alloy cylinder heads. It has a power boost of 130 horsepower and
135 lb-ft of torque. All models featured a power-assisted ventilated front disc
brakes and rear drum brakes.
