1993 Mazda Protege
New corporate logo is added for 1993 Mazda Protege. The car models for this year
are assisted by either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
The base SE is equipped with a 16-valve, 103-horsepower 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine
while the upgraded LX comes with a twin-cam version of the same engine that can
produce 125 horsepower.
The car may seem perfect but it has defects that need corrections and improvements.
Models produced for this
year have defects in their brakes, clutch, engine and timing belt. Problem in
brakes is caused by a squealing front brake due to friction. It can be corrected
by using different pads. Noise is the defect for the clutch and engine. Disturbing
noise is heard when the clutch is released due to unsuited springs in its cushioning
plate. The same disturbance is heard in the engine caused by inadequate hydraulic
lash adjusters.
The original timing belt also gives off squealing and rumbling noise thus it
should be replaced by a new timing-belt tensioner. Water leak on the front floor
was also a problem as proved by several 1990-1993 Mazda Protege models.
