1991 Mazda Protege
For 1991, the base version of the Protege sedan switches its name from SE to
DX. Few changes were done
since 1990. A 98.4-inch wheelbase and a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic
gearbox is standard for all trims. The base Protege SE is powered by a 16-valve,
103-horsepower 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine. A twin cam version of the same engine
with 125 horsepower is used by the LX trim.
The interiors are suitable for four passengers with well placed controls and
switches for easy operation. Mazda Protege's automatic transmission and noisy
engine are two of its not-so good features which affect the car's performance
and fuel economy capacity. However these negative qualities are offset by its
responsive handling and steering.
Added comfort and convenience are added by optional features such as air conditioning,
sunroof, four-speed automatic transmission and custom wheels. Few changes were
done in the features. Airbags and antilock brakes are not included for this year
